December Crested Butte/Gunnison Market Update


December 2nd,

It is a balmy -10 degrees in Crested Butte this morning but the skies are blue and the sun is shining, one of my favorite parts of living in Colorado–it may be cold but the sun is still out.  The ski area opened last Wednesday and the mountain is skiing great, with 4 lifts running and 23 runs open.  CBMR is working hard on snow making and grooming to open more terrain as soon as possible, we still need some help from Mother Nature but I bet by Christmas time, she will have delivered.

There are some great options for flying into Gunnison/Crested Butte this winter.  Alaska airlines is now flying direct from LAX Wednesdays and Saturdays, American Airlines is offering daily/Saturday only flights from Dallas and United Airlines has direct flights from Chicago, Houston and Denver.  Here is the complete schedule: GUC Winter Airline Service.

December is full of fun events.  A few of my personal favorites include, the Rock on Ice Dec. 16th-20th; an ice carving competition that results in beautiful ice sculptures all over the base area, Santa Ski and Crawl December 12th; an attempt to set a world record for people in Santa costumes skiing and finally the Christmas Eve Torchlight Parade and Santa Sleigh December 24th.  Here is a full calendar of events for December: Things to Do in December.

We currently have 125 properties under contract for a total of $54,657,085 in volume.  Inventory is still on the decline in certain areas like CB South where there are only 9 homes for sale.  Land sales are still on the rise and year-to-date, we have seen 165 vacant lots sale, compared to 112 by this time last year.  November has been slightly slower in new contracts but this is very typical for the time of year.  We are on track to meet or beat the total sales volume of 2014 but have already far exceeded the number of actual transactions.
